Kolkata, December 2: Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest batsman to score a century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. On Tuesday at Eden Gardens, Suryavanshi played a spectacular century against Maharashtra.
Playing for Bihar, Suryavanshi scored 108 runs in just 61 balls. His innings included seven fours and seven sixes. This was Suryavanshi’s third century in only his 16th professional T20 match. However, this was his slowest century, reaching three figures in 58 balls.
Thanks to Suryavanshi’s 108-run knock, Bihar posted a total of 176 runs for 3 wickets in 20 overs. Akash Raj contributed 26 runs while Ayush Loharuka added 25 runs to the total.
Earlier this year, Suryavanshi created history by becoming the youngest player to score a century in the IPL at just 14 years and 23 days. Against Gujarat Titans, he scored a century in 35 balls, which was the fastest IPL century by an Indian and the second-fastest overall in the league after Chris Gayle.
However, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s century could not help Bihar win the match. Maharashtra defeated Bihar by 3 wickets.
For Maharashtra, captain Prithvi Shaw played a brilliant innings of 66 runs in 30 balls with 11 fours and 1 six. His innings helped Maharashtra chase down the target, scoring 182 runs for 7 wickets in 19.1 overs to win by 3 wickets. Niraj Joshi scored 30, Ranjeet Nikam made 27, and Nikheel contributed 22 runs. Prithvi Shaw was awarded the Player of the Match.
If other batsmen from Bihar had also scored runs at a faster pace, Vaibhav’s record century could have secured victory for Bihar against Maharashtra.
