Vaibhav SuryaVanshi Aims to Break Chris Gayles T20 Record, Not Just Hit Sixes

New Delhi, March 16: Vaibhav SuryaVanshi, the 14-year-old cricket prodigy, has set his sights on breaking Chris Gayle’s long-standing T20 record. This record, which has remained unbroken for 13 years, is for the highest runs scored in a single T20 innings.

SuryaVanshi made headlines during his IPL debut by hitting a six on his very first ball. In his debut season, he scored a century and amassed a total of 252 runs in just seven matches. Since then, he has consistently performed well in both domestic and international cricket. His explosive batting played a crucial role in India winning the Under-19 ODI World Cup, where he scored an impressive 175 runs in the final against England.

During the BCCI’s annual awards ceremony, renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle asked SuryaVanshi which record he would like to break among three options: hitting six sixes in an over, breaking Chris Gayle’s IPL record of 175 runs, or achieving the fastest century in IPL history. SuryaVanshi, who holds the record for the second-fastest century in IPL at 35 balls, expressed his desire to surpass Gayle’s 175 runs.

It’s noteworthy that Yuvraj Singh was the first player to hit six sixes in an over during the 2007 T20 World Cup against England. While SuryaVanshi enjoys hitting sixes, his primary goal is to break Gayle’s record.

Gayle’s unbeaten 175 runs were scored against Pune Warriors in the 2013 IPL, marking it as the highest individual score in T20 cricket history. Despite the evolution of T20 cricket over the past 13 years, no player has managed to break this record. Given SuryaVanshi’s remarkable batting style, there is hope that he may be the one to achieve this milestone.
