Bihars Eastern Champaran Cracks Down on Drug Traffickers, Securing 100 Convictions in Two Years

Motihari, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : Authorities in Eastern Champaran, Bihar, have intensified their efforts against drug trafficking. Over the past two years, police actions have led to 100 convictions in drug-related cases, with 64 individuals receiving sentences of seven years or more. Some offenders have been handed sentences of up to 18 years for their crimes.

Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat urged the youth to steer clear of illegal drug trade, highlighting the severe penalties stipulated by law for trafficking offenses. Currently, around 500 individuals are under trial for drug-related charges in the district, with police actively gathering evidence to ensure these cases lead to successful prosecutions.

The list of convicted individuals includes various charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Notable cases involve Sameer Shah and Salman Shah, both sentenced to 14 years for cannabis-related offenses linked to the Ghodasahan police station.

In another case, Suresh Prasad Kushwaha received a 14-year sentence for 3.78 kilograms of cannabis, while Pyare Lal Sah was sentenced to the same duration for possessing 163 kilograms of marijuana. Pannalal Das also received 14 years for 5.72 kilograms of cannabis.

Vishal Patel was convicted for 151.6 kilograms of marijuana, receiving a 14-year sentence, while Akram Sheikh was sentenced to 13 years for 5.1 kilograms of cannabis. Superintendent Prabhat emphasized that drug trafficking poses a serious threat to the youth and society’s future.

He appealed to young people not to engage with trafficking networks or fall for the lure of quick money, warning that involvement in drug trade could ruin their futures. The police are committed to ongoing actions against drug networks and ensuring that offenders face strict legal consequences.
