Lucknow, April 8: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh has reached a historic milestone in milk production. The state has seen a remarkable 40% increase in milk output compared to previous years. Surpassing major dairy-producing states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the leading state in this sector.
The top five states contribute 54% to the country’s total milk production, with Uttar Pradesh alone accounting for 16%. This figure clearly illustrates the state’s growing strength and robust dairy infrastructure.
During CM Yogi’s tenure, milk production has surged significantly. In the fiscal year 2016-17, production was 27.7 million metric tons, which has now exceeded 38.8 million metric tons in 2024-25.
Mukesh Meshram, Additional Chief Secretary of the Animal Husbandry Department, stated that this 40% increase is a result of planned development and the solid grassroots efforts made by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
A significant driving force behind this dairy revolution has been rural women. Through the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission, millions of women are becoming self-reliant by engaging in dairy activities. In 31 districts of the state, women’s groups are collecting approximately 1 million liters of milk daily, generating a business worth around ₹5,000 crores.
About 400,000 women farmers are linked through five major dairy-producing companies, injecting new momentum into the rural economy. By February 2026, the total business of these companies has reached ₹5,000 crores.
Women are setting records by connecting with various dairy cooperatives such as ‘Balini MPCS’ in Bundelkhand, ‘Kashi MPCS’ in Purvanchal, ‘Samarthya MPCS’ in the Awadh region, ‘Shri Baba Gorakhnath Kripa MPCS’ in Gorakhpur, and ‘Srijan MPCS’ in the Terai region.
Mukesh Meshram emphasized that for the first time during Yogi’s government, women have been integrated into the economic mainstream on such a large scale, empowering them significantly. This record increase in milk production not only signifies economic strength but also symbolizes the changing landscape of Uttar Pradesh.
