US Deputy NSA Daleep Singh to visit India for talks on Ukraine, Indo-Pacific

Washington/New Delhi, March 30 : US Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economics Daleep Singh, an Indian-American official who has played a key role in shaping the Biden administration’s sanctions against Russia, arrives today on a two-day visit to hold talks with Indian officials on Ukraine. Singh’s visit comes at a time when Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is to visit India this week, as well as UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, who arrives on Thursday. Emily Horne, spokesperson of the National Security Council of the White House, said in a statement that on March 30th and 31st, Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economics Daleep Singh will be in New Delhi “to continue our ongoing consultations with the Government of India, and advance a range of issues in the U.S.-India economic relationship and strategic partnership.” “Singh will meet with Government of India officials to deepen cooperation to promote inclusive economic growth and prosperity, and a free and open Indo-Pacific. Singh will consult closely with counterparts on the consequences of Russia’s unjustified war against Ukraine and mitigating its impact on the global economy. “Singh will also discuss priorities of the Biden Administration, including the promotion of high-quality infrastructure through Build Back Better World and the development of an Indo-Pacific Economic Framework.” Singh’s visit also comes ahead of the planned India-US 2+2 talks which are to be held this year. Singh, 46, is from North Carolina, and was recently appointed as Biden’s deputy national-security adviser for international economics. He spent part of his early career at Goldman Sachs, and made his name as a market technician. Singh was also deputy assistant secretary of the Treasury for international affairs and acting Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Financial Markets in the Obama administration.
