Bhopal, April 10: A tense rescue operation is ongoing in the village of Jhalariya, located in the Badnagar area of Ujjain district, where a three-year-old boy has fallen into an open borewell, trapped at a depth of approximately 60 feet.
The incident occurred when a boy named Bhagirath accidentally slipped into the borewell. Reports indicate that he had come to the area three days ago with his family to graze sheep.
Upon receiving news of the child’s fall, local authorities promptly initiated rescue efforts. The child has been identified as Bhagirath (3), the son of Praveen Devasi from Guranala in Pali district, Rajasthan.
The family had been camping in the area for three days while tending to their sheep. While playing, the child fell into an open borewell located on Paladuna Road. A camera has been placed in the borewell to monitor the child, and efforts to establish communication with him are ongoing. Local villagers are also assisting in the rescue operation.
Senior officials, including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, and Station House Officer, have arrived at the scene alongside police and rescue teams. Collector Roshan Kumar Singh and Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma are also present to oversee the operation.
Specialized rescue teams are working tirelessly, utilizing equipment to safely extract the child. A parallel pit is being dug next to the borewell to ensure the child’s safety during the rescue.
This incident has shaken the entire village, drawing a large crowd to the site. Villagers are praying and supporting the rescue teams. The child’s health status has not been officially confirmed yet, but officials remain hopeful and are taking every precaution to ensure his safety.
Collector Singh stated that due to the borewell’s depth and narrow space, the rescue operation is being conducted with extreme caution. He emphasized that specialized equipment is being used to minimize risks during the operation.
Authorities have assured the public that every possible measure is being taken to rescue the child.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding open borewells in rural areas, which continue to pose a threat to children. Despite repeated warnings, many regions still have uncovered borewells that remain hazardous. The current rescue operation in Jhalariya underscores the urgent need for stricter safety measures to prevent such tragedies.
As the rescue efforts progress, the entire community is anxiously awaiting good news.
