New Delhi, April 23 : Statutory bodies UGC and AICTE have issued a joint notice advising Indian and overseas Indians not to pursue higher education degrees from Pakistan, and have said such individuals will not be eligible for jobs or higher education in India. The two bodies, which oversee higher education in India including technical education, said migrants who have been given Indian citizenship will, however, be eligible after getting a clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs. “All concerned are advised not to travel to Pakistan for pursuing Higher Education, Any Indian national/Overseas Citizen of India who intends to take admission in any degree college/educational institution of Pakistan shall not be eligible for seeking employment or higher studies in India on the basis of such educational qualifications (in any subject) acquired in Pakistan,” the notice said. “Migrants and their children who have acquired higher education degree in Pakistan and have been awarded citizenship by India would be eligible for seeking employment in India after obtaining Security Clearance from Home Ministry,” it said. In an advisory issued on May 8, 2019, the UGC had cautioned students against taking admission in unapproved educational institutions situated in Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). According to different reports there are over 200 Indian students in Pakistan, most of them are from Jammu and Kashmir. AO ING
