U.S.-India Partnership Will Shape the 21st Century, Says Marco Rubio

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasizes the significance of the U.S.-India partnership in determining the future of the 21st century during an event in Mumbai.

Mumbai, October 20 (Daily Kiran) : U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Tuesday that the history of the 21st century is being written in “this region.” He emphasized that the partnership between Washington and New Delhi is crucial in determining the nature of this century.

Speaking at the “Freedom 250” event in Mumbai, commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence, Rubio stressed the importance of strengthening ties with India. He noted that India is the world’s most populous nation and a significant geopolitical partner.

“When considering the story and history of the 21st century, it is being written in this region at this very moment,” Rubio remarked. “One day, someone will write a book on the history of the 21st century. There will be a chapter on other parts of the world, but how this century unfolds—whether positively or negatively—will depend on what happens in this region. We know this; we can feel it.”

Rubio expressed his firm belief that the relationship between the U.S. and India will play a pivotal role in shaping the century. He highlighted a mutual agreement between the two nations regarding the use of technologies like superintelligence and quantum computing for the betterment of humanity while minimizing their risks.

Additionally, both countries agree on the necessity of a free and secure Indo-Pacific region, where no nation can assert dominance over international maritime routes. He stated that free trade relies on open sea lanes, particularly for India and the U.S., emphasizing the importance of a safe Indo-Pacific where no country can claim ownership of these routes.

Rubio acknowledged that while no two countries can agree on every issue, the alignment of national interests between India and the U.S. on key matters is exceptional, especially given the size of both nations.

He concluded by stating, “I will see you again in three months, as I plan to return here quarterly.”
