Kolkata, March 3: Former Indian cricket captain and president of the Bengal Cricket Association, Saurav Ganguly, emphasized the importance of self-belief and hard work in achieving success. Speaking at a CII event in West Bengal, he referenced Sanju Samson’s impressive 97-run innings against the West Indies.
Ganguly noted that there was a time when Samson faced criticism for his performance. However, the wicketkeeper-batsman showcased his talent in a crucial quarter-final match. Ganguly stated that Samson’s batting proved why he was preferred over Shubman Gill in the team.
He highlighted that every day is a new opportunity, and believing in one’s abilities is key to success. Ganguly cited Australia’s performance in the 1999 World Cup as an example. Despite losing four matches, the team won the next six to claim the title. He acknowledged that playing cricket has significantly boosted his confidence, which has been beneficial in life.

He recalled his first innings there at the age of 13, noting the stark contrast in earnings from playing in the Ranji Trophy, which was ₹100, to the ₹27 crore one can earn in an entire IPL season today.
