Trump Praises Secret Service After Shooter Incident Near White House Correspondents Dinner

Washington, April 26: President Donald Trump commended the swift action of Secret Service agents following a shooting incident near the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. The assailant, armed with multiple weapons, attempted to breach a security checkpoint but was quickly subdued by agents. Trump described the event as sudden and praised the agents for their rapid response.

After being safely evacuated from the Washington Hilton, Trump held a press conference at the White House. “I was completely shocked that something happened. The First Lady and I heard a noise, and I thought it was a tray falling. It was a loud sound coming from a distance,” he stated.

Trump noted that brave members of the Secret Service apprehended the suspect quickly. One agent was shot but is reported to be safe. The President confirmed that the attacker fired from a distance of 50 yards but was stopped before reaching the ballroom, which he emphasized was very secure. He reassured that the assailant did not enter the main event area.

Reports indicate that the gunman is from California. He was apprehended while attempting to pass through a security checkpoint and did not gain access to the hotel’s large ballroom, where Trump and numerous top administration officials, along with hundreds of journalists, were gathered.

The President confirmed that a Secret Service officer was shot but survived due to wearing a high-quality bulletproof vest. “The vest did its job. The officer is in good condition and very upbeat,” Trump said.

Repeatedly praising the security agents, Trump remarked, “They acted very quickly. I was very impressed with the Secret Service; otherwise, I would be the one complaining.”

Describing the moment of the shooting, he noted that events unfolded in mere seconds. “I was watching what was happening. Perhaps it should have happened even faster. The First Lady reacted immediately, and both of us were quickly evacuated.”

Despite the disruption, Trump expressed a desire to continue the dinner. “I tried very hard to stop, but I also understood that it was necessary to evacuate people according to security protocols. This event will happen again within 30 days.”

Guests at the Washington Hilton reported hearing five or six loud bangs. The suspect was taken into custody near the screening area. The Secret Service confirmed that the incident occurred near the main magnetometer screening area, where everyone remained safe.

Trump stated that investigators are looking into whether the attacker acted alone, describing him as a “sick person.” Reflecting on the threats to the presidency, Trump said, “This is a dangerous profession. Such threats will not change my approach to public life.”

He also called for unity, saying, “We need to resolve our differences—Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. Despite the disruption, this gathering shows a shared national moment for a time.”

The Washington Hilton, traditionally the venue for the dinner, has long been associated with security concerns for the President. It was the site of an assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan in 1981, reminding us of the ongoing threats surrounding American political leadership.
