Washington, April 5: President Donald Trump has once again issued a 48-hour deadline to Iran regarding the blockade of the Hormuz Strait. In a stern message on the social media platform Truth, he stated, “Lift the blockade or be prepared for devastation.”
Trump reminded followers of his previous warnings, threatening total destruction if Iran does not comply. He wrote, “Remember when I gave Iran ten days to negotiate or open the Hormuz Strait? Time is running out—devastation will occur in 48 hours.”
His statements regarding Hormuz have been inconsistent. Just last Saturday, Trump threatened to attack power plants if the Strait remained closed after the initial 48-hour warning. He then extended the deadline to ten days, later shifting responsibility to NATO, claiming they must ensure the Strait remains open.
Trump emphasized that the U.S. does not rely on this route for oil, stating that countries dependent on it should take responsibility for its security, with U.S. support.
Since the U.S. and Israel’s attack on Iran on February 28, Iran has effectively closed the Strait, significantly impacting oil supply.
In another post on Truth, Trump criticized NATO, labeling it a weak and unreliable partner. He hinted that the U.S. might reassess its relationship with NATO, stating, “In the current situation, NATO has failed to fulfill its obligations.”
