New Delhi, April 6: U.S. President Donald Trump has stated in an interview with Israeli media that the United States is engaged in “serious” negotiations to establish a ceasefire with Iran. He emphasized that the U.S. will not abandon this conflict.
Trump revealed that his administration is maintaining contact with Iran through various channels, led by his advisors Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Sources indicate that discussions are occurring through two main avenues: indirect talks via countries like Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey, and direct communication between U.S. representatives and Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi.
These intermediary nations are striving to reach an agreement that would extend the deadline set by the U.S. However, recent phone conversations have not yielded significant results.
Trump told Channel 12 that there is a “good chance” of a deal before the Tuesday deadline. However, he warned that if an agreement is not reached, the U.S. will take “strong action” in the region.
On Sunday, Trump posted on social media, indicating that “Tuesday, 8:00 PM (Eastern Time)” could signal a possible extension of the deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier that day, Trump warned that Tuesday could be a “Power Plant Day and Bridge Day” for Iran, implying potential severe actions. He reiterated his demand for Iran to reopen the Strait.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Trump stated that if Iran does not reopen the Strait by Tuesday evening, the U.S. could destroy all of its power plants.
He remarked, “If they refuse to comply, if they want to keep it closed, they will have to forfeit every power plant and all other facilities across the country.”
In a phone conversation with Fox News, Trump suggested that an agreement to end the ongoing conflict with Iran could be reached by Monday.
