Agartala, April 10: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has asserted that the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) is destined to lose in the upcoming elections for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). He accused the party of engaging in corruption, spreading falsehoods, and divisive politics in recent times.
While addressing an election rally, Saha expressed confidence that the people of TTAADC would secure a decisive victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on April 12, which he believes is essential for the development of the Tiprasa (tribal communities).
Saha accused TMP of betraying the tribal population under the guise of ‘Thansa’ and claimed they are inciting ethnic sentiments for political gain. He emphasized that a significant victory for the BJP is crucial for the advancement of the Tiprasa.
The Chief Minister spoke at a rally in Kalachara, South Tripura district, supporting the BJP candidate for the TTAADC elections. He also participated in another rally in support of BJP candidate Abhijit Tripura in the Eastern Muhuripur Bhurtali constituency.
During his address, Saha noted the various forms of politics emerging in the state. He criticized the opposition leader, suggesting they lack the courage to contest from the reserved tribal seat.
Responding to opposition criticism, Saha mentioned that the opposition leader accused him of being politically bankrupt. Jitendra Chaudhary, the state secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), currently serves as the leader of the opposition in Tripura.
Saha countered allegations regarding land encroachments, stating that while the opposition claims someone has occupied government land in Boxanagar, three-quarters of their party office in Amarpur is built on government property. This issue had reached the High Court but was dismissed. There were even demands to demolish the office with a bulldozer.
The Chief Minister accused the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Congress of alleging that the BJP has a political alliance with the Tipra Motha Party.
He stated, “We are being accused of colluding politically. However, when they were candidates in the assembly elections, Tipra Motha did not field any candidates against them. So, who is truly colluding?” He suggested that such confusion is deliberately spread to mislead the public.
Regarding Congress, Saha remarked that discussing them is pointless, asserting that if any party is disorganized, it is Congress. In contrast, he praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for strengthening the nation while accusing Congress of trying to weaken it.
Reiterating his criticism of Tipra Motha, Saha claimed that the party lacks a clear ideology and is dividing society along ethnic lines. He accused TMP of misusing ‘Thansa’ and misleading the tribal people, while asserting that the BJP is committed to the welfare of all societal segments. The BJP believes in unity and collective progress.
Referencing Prime Minister Modi’s vision, Saha stated that the government operates on the principle that everyone should participate in development and progress. He added that the state government is working in alignment with this vision to ensure inclusive development and participation for all communities.
Elections for the 30-member TTAADC, which includes 28 elected representatives and two members appointed by the state government, are scheduled for April 12.
Since 2021, the BJP’s ally, the Tipra Motha Party, has governed this strategically important council, which administers nearly two-thirds of Tripura’s geographical area of 10,491 square kilometers.
