
Salem, March 20: A devastating road accident near Salem, Tamil Nadu, has resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, including two children. The incident occurred in Uthamsolapuram, leaving the local community in mourning.
A government bus traveling from Erode to Salem reportedly lost control and veered into oncoming traffic. The out-of-control bus collided with a mini freight vehicle near Sulai Medu.
Four people died at the scene, while several others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospitals. Tragically, some of these individuals later succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total death toll to seven. Among the deceased are five-year-old Nithishka and eleven-month-old Jivika, along with Manikandan, Irusai, Selvaraj, Amutha, and Murugan.
Upon learning of the accident, Salem’s district collector, Vrinda Devi, and police officials visited the site to conduct an investigation. Authorities are examining CCTV footage from the area to determine the exact causes of the crash. The driver of the government bus has been detained for questioning by the police.
This is not the first major accident in Tamil Nadu. On February 24, a young woman lost her life in a road incident, while at least ten others were injured when a mini bus was involved in a collision on the Chennai-Tiruvallur Road near Vellanur.
Earlier this year, on January 10, a severe road accident in the Mettur area resulted in three fatalities and left one young man critically injured after a head-on collision between an auto and a two-wheeler.
