Raigarh, February 26: A severe road accident occurred late Wednesday night in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh. A speeding pickup truck lost control and plunged into a gorge, injuring more than 25 passengers. Tragically, one individual lost their life in the incident. Local police and villagers quickly responded to the scene, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals.
According to reports, around 25 to 30 members of the Rathiya community from Bangurrasuta village were traveling in the pickup truck to a wedding ceremony in the Gosai Podi area of the Kapu police jurisdiction. After the ceremony concluded, they were returning home when the vehicle suddenly veered off the road at Madvatala Ghat and fell into the gorge.
The crash caused panic as screams filled the air. Nearby residents rushed to help and alerted the police, who initiated rescue operations. The injured were taken to Kapu Hospital via ambulance, where one person was pronounced dead. Additionally, three individuals with severe injuries were referred to Raigarh, while others continued to receive treatment in Kapu and Dharamjaygarh.
Reports indicate that many passengers suffered head injuries, with several others sustaining deep wounds. Local police and administration worked tirelessly at the scene until late into the night. The driver of the pickup fled the scene following the accident.
Currently, the police have conducted a post-mortem on the deceased and placed the body in the morgue, intending to hand it over to the family afterward. Authorities have also launched a search for the driver. Eyewitnesses claim that the accident was caused by brake failure in the pickup truck. The police are investigating all possible causes of the incident.
