Mumbai, May 2: A tragic incident has emerged from Kanker district in Chhattisgarh, where an IED explosion resulted in the deaths of three District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel, with one more seriously injured.
The explosion occurred near the border of Kanker and Narayanpur districts while a security team was engaged in de-mining, area domination, and search operations.
According to police reports, the team was working to locate and deactivate previously laid IEDs when suddenly, four personnel were caught in an explosion.
Inspector Sukhram Vatti, Constable Krishna Komra, and Constable Sanjay Gadhpale sustained severe injuries and were killed on the spot. Another injured soldier, Constable Paramanand Komra, was rushed to the hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Bastar Range Inspector General Sundar Raj Pattilingam stated that based on information from recently surrendered Maoist cadres and other intelligence inputs, security forces have discovered and deactivated a significant number of IEDs in the Bastar region. However, hundreds of IEDs, previously hidden by Maoists, still pose a threat in the area, and efforts to locate and deactivate them are ongoing.
This unfortunate incident occurred on Saturday when the police team was attempting to deactivate an IED that unexpectedly detonated, leading to this tragic event. Authorities are investigating the matter and gathering additional information related to the incident.
