Tragic Fire in Vivek Vihar Claims Nine Lives, Minister Expresses Condolences

New Delhi, May 3: A devastating fire in a multi-story residential building in the Vivek Vihar area has shaken the city. Union Minister Harsh Malhotra expressed deep sorrow over the incident, labeling it as unfortunate, and confirmed that the condition of the injured individuals is currently stable.

According to reports, the fire broke out on the second floor of the building around 4 AM. In response, 14 fire engines were dispatched to the scene immediately. During the firefighting and rescue operations, officials managed to evacuate 15 individuals safely. Minister Harsh Malhotra stated that a total of 28 people were rescued, with significant assistance from local residents. Tragically, nine people, including a young child, lost their lives in this heartbreaking incident.

The Union Minister arrived at the scene to assess the relief and rescue efforts. In a conversation, he remarked, “This incident is extremely tragic. Preliminary information suggests that the fire ignited between 3:15 and 3:30 AM due to a spark. Upon receiving the alert, the fire brigade and Delhi police promptly reached the location. Unfortunately, nine lives have been lost. The injured are receiving treatment, and their condition is currently stable.”

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva also expressed his condolences regarding the incident, calling it a painful occurrence that resulted in the loss of nine lives. He noted that initial reports indicated the fire was caused by a spark.

According to police, the Vivek Vihar station chief and ACP, along with their team, arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the alert around 4 AM. The fire department and crime team also reached the site to commence rescue operations. The incident occurred at building B-13 in Vivek Vihar Phase-1.

By around 6 AM, the fire was brought under control, and the injured were admitted to a nearby hospital. Among the 15 individuals rescued, two sustained minor injuries and were sent to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and an investigation is ongoing. Authorities have stated that further information will be released soon.
