Tragic Electrocution Incident Claims Lives of Two Foreign Nationals in Bengaluru Hotel
Two foreign nationals die from electrocution in a Bengaluru hotel pool, while two others are injured during rescue efforts.
Bengaluru, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic incident unfolded in Bengaluru on October 31, when two foreign nationals lost their lives due to electrocution in the swimming pool of a five-star hotel. The incident occurred around 6:30 PM at a hotel located in Halasuru. The deceased have been identified as 57-year-old Alexander Maximilian Theis from Germany and 45-year-old Juraj Horvath from Slovakia.
According to police sources, electrical current was present in the pool water, leading to the fatalities. Initial investigations suggest that a fault in the hotel’s electrical system may have caused the current to enter the water. Authorities are currently probing how the electrocution occurred.
During attempts to rescue the victims, two others were injured: 41-year-old American tourist Matthew DeSantis and 28-year-old hotel lifeguard Rahul Tiwari. Both individuals suffered injuries while trying to save Theis and Horvath and were subsequently taken to Manipal Hospital, where their conditions are reported to be stable.
This incident has raised serious concerns regarding the electrical safety measures and maintenance protocols at the hotel’s swimming pool. Following a complaint from Horvath’s wife, police have filed a negligence case against the hotel management.
Preliminary investigations by officials from the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited suggest there may have been an earthing issue or another technical fault within the pool’s electrical system. Investigators are examining the electrical infrastructure of the pool to determine how the current reached the water. They are also reviewing the hotel’s maintenance practices to ensure adequate safety measures are in place to prevent such incidents in the future.
Police are gathering information about the circumstances surrounding the event, including the rescue efforts and the events leading to the deaths. Further investigations are ongoing to establish accountability for this tragic occurrence.
