Fatehpur, May 17: A tragic drowning incident in Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh has resulted in the deaths of four young men, while two others are in critical condition.
The unfortunate event occurred in Kunwa Ka Dera village, located in the Lalauili police station area, when six young men ventured into the Yamuna River for a swim and were swept away by deep waters.
According to police officials, the drowning incident was reported around 1:30 PM via UP 112, prompting a swift response from police teams and local divers who initiated a rescue operation immediately.
Additional Superintendent of Police Gyan Prakash Rai stated that the six young men, aged between 18 and 20 years, drowned while swimming in the river. He confirmed that the police received the distress call at approximately 1:30 PM on May 17. Teams from UP 112 and Lalauili police station arrived quickly and began rescue efforts with the help of local divers.
The deceased have been identified as Hasibuddin, Shahid, Ansh, and Shan, all residents of Tapni village. Officials reported that all four drowned at the scene.
The remaining two young men were rescued from the river by local divers and villagers. They have been admitted to a nearby hospital, where their condition is reported to be serious.
The police have taken custody of the deceased bodies and sent them for post-mortem examinations.
This incident has cast a pall of grief over Tapni village, where family members and residents gathered in large numbers upon hearing the news. Local authorities have indicated that further investigations into the causes of the incident are ongoing.
