Bhopal, April 7: A tragic incident unfolded on Monday afternoon when three teenage boys drowned in a dam in Ashoknagar district, Madhya Pradesh. The boys, all close friends from the same village, lost their lives after venturing into deep water.
The victims have been identified as Mayank (16), son of Avadhesh Raghuvanshi, Dev (16), son of Rakesh Raghuvanshi, and Om (15), son of Satish Raghuvanshi. They were residents of Ajleshwar village, under the jurisdiction of the New Sarai police station.
According to police and eyewitnesses, a group of six boys from the village frequently visited the nearby dam during the hot summer afternoons. Initially, the three boys were playing in shallow water but gradually moved towards the deeper end. None of them knew how to swim. Suddenly, the water’s depth increased rapidly, causing them to lose their balance and begin to drown.
Investigating officer Manish Gurjar stated that the boys had gone to the dam as they often did during summer afternoons. Their friends attempted to help them, but the depth of the water frightened them, and they retreated to shore. This incident occurred between 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM.
Panicked, the boys ran back to the village to inform their families. Within minutes, a large number of villagers arrived at the scene to search for the boys. However, their efforts were hampered by the deep water and lack of proper equipment. The New Sarai police were notified immediately.
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was called in. SDRF divers arrived promptly and initiated a rescue operation. After a long and challenging search, the bodies of the three teenagers were recovered from the dam.
A deep sense of mourning has enveloped Ajleshwar village. The grief of the victims’ families is unbearable, and the entire village is resonating with sorrow. Relatives and neighbors gathered in large numbers to console the bereaved families. The bodies have been sent to the hospital for post-mortem examinations.
The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
