Damoh, May 3: A tragic cruise accident at Bargi Dam in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district has resulted in the recovery of 13 bodies so far. Reports indicate that approximately 40 to 41 people were on board the cruise at the time of the incident. Rescue operations have been ongoing since the accident, with local authorities fully engaged in relief efforts.
Madhya Pradesh’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, Dharmendra Singh Lodhi, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He described the event as extremely tragic and painful. “I pay tribute to the souls of the departed and pray that God grants them a place at His feet and gives their families the strength to endure this sorrow,” he stated.
Upon receiving news of the accident, the administration acted swiftly. “We have been monitoring the situation closely from the beginning and have been fully committed to the rescue operation. Those who could be saved were brought to safety, but unfortunately, we could not save 13 lives,” Lodhi added.
Minister Lodhi also emphasized that the state government is taking the incident very seriously and is maintaining continuous oversight. “Chief Minister Mohan Yadav is personally monitoring the situation. I arrived at the site around 8 PM, shortly after Minister Rakesh Singh. We all stayed on-site throughout the night to ensure there were no shortcomings in the rescue operation,” he explained.
Local representatives and other officials also visited the site to express their condolences to the victims’ families. The administration and public representatives worked together to ensure that the relief and rescue efforts were conducted with utmost seriousness and sensitivity.
Lodhi criticized opposition parties for attempting to politicize this tragic event. “Some people want to turn this unfortunate incident into a political issue, while this is a time for empathy and cooperation,” he remarked.
Regarding the investigation, he announced that the government has ordered an immediate inquiry. A report is expected within a week, and a team has been formed for this purpose. Preliminary actions have already been taken against individuals found negligent before the investigation’s completion.
He further assured that the government is committed to preventing such incidents from occurring in the future.
