Amaravati, May 14: A devastating road accident occurred early Thursday in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. A tipper truck collided head-on with a private travel bus on the Yeragudem National Highway in the Devarapalli Mandal. The accident resulted in the death of one passenger, while ten others sustained injuries. The scene was chaotic, with a crowd gathering shortly after the incident.
Reports indicate that the Sri Venkata Ramana Private Travel Bus was transporting around 40 passengers from Rajam in Srikakulam district to Vijayawada when it was struck by the speeding tipper truck.
The deceased has been identified as Naru Sai Anil Kumar, a resident of the Panasala Valasa area in Rajam. He was reportedly traveling to Gannavaram with four family members. His parents suffered minor injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Gopalapuram Community Health Center.
In contrast, his brother, Gopalakrishna, was severely injured and has been transferred to Rajamahendravaram for advanced medical care. The family was residing in Visakhapatnam at the time of the accident.
Other injured passengers were promptly admitted to the Gopalapuram Primary Health Center and Rajamahendravaram Hospital. According to doctors, some of the injured remain in critical condition, and the conditions of both the truck and bus drivers are also concerning.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident was caused by the truck driver’s negligence and drowsiness. It is reported that the driver lost control of the vehicle due to fatigue, leading to the collision with the bus. Devarapalli police arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the information and initiated rescue operations. An investigation is underway to gather more details about the incident.
