Dhanbad, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic incident unfolded in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, on the morning of September 13, when the roof of an illegal coal mine collapsed, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, including a woman. Local reports indicate that three people were rescued from the site with injuries, but there are concerns that several others may still be trapped under the rubble.
The collapse occurred around 7 a.m. in the Keshalpur Kumharpatty area of the Ramkanali OP region. Eyewitnesses reported that a group of men and women had entered the illegal tunnel to mine and sift coal when the upper section suddenly caved in, burying many beneath the debris.
Nearby villagers rushed to the scene, using shovels and other tools to clear the rubble. Unfortunately, two individuals were retrieved but were already deceased. The victims have been identified as Munia Devi from Kevatkuli and a man from Belonjabad.
Three injured individuals were taken to a local nursing home for treatment. Residents expressed fears that more people could still be trapped, prompting ongoing rescue efforts. Reports suggest that coal extracted from these illegal tunnels is often sold in nearby markets via motorbikes.
As of now, the official confirmation of the fatalities and the exact number of trapped individuals has not been released. Local police have arrived at the scene to investigate the incident. Clarity on the number of casualties will only emerge following the completion of rescue operations and official assessments.
