Mathura, April 10: A tragic incident occurred in Vrindavan, Mathura, where a boat carrying tourists capsized in the Yamuna River on Friday. At least six people have lost their lives, and there are fears that around a dozen more may be missing. Local authorities have arrived at the scene, and a rescue operation is currently underway. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his condolences regarding the incident.
The boat, which was transporting tourists, overturned suddenly during the afternoon. Divers have been deployed to search for the missing individuals, and teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are also present at the site. The area is currently in a state of chaos due to the incident.
Reports indicate that the victims were tourists from Punjab who had come to visit Vrindavan. District Magistrate Chandraprakash Singh confirmed that six bodies have been recovered, and efforts to locate the missing individuals are ongoing.
It is believed that over two dozen tourists were on board the boat at the time of the accident. The ongoing rescue operation involves approximately 50 local divers, along with teams from the SDRF and NDRF.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took to social media platform X to express his sorrow, stating that the loss of life in the boat capsizing in Mathura is extremely tragic and heartbreaking. He extended his condolences to the grieving families.
He also instructed relevant officials to reach the site immediately to carry out rescue and relief operations and ensure proper medical treatment for the injured.
