Banswara, May 5: A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday in Rajasthan’s Banswara district when a boat capsized in the Mahi River. Two individuals are reported missing, including an eight-year-old boy.
Authorities stated that out of the ten people on board, eight managed to swim to safety, including the boatman. The incident took place around 3 PM in the Arthuna police station area.
According to police reports, the boat overturned approximately 200 meters from the riverbank. The missing persons have been identified as 21-year-old Jayesh and 8-year-old Manav.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with teams from the police, civil defense, and the state disaster response force deployed at the scene. Local divers and villagers are also assisting in the search efforts.
Banswara SP Sudhir Joshi confirmed that police and SDRF teams are actively searching for the missing individuals. A team of about ten members is conducting the search operation with the help of two boats until nightfall.
Local fishermen have also joined the campaign to locate the missing individuals and the sunken boat, which has not yet been recovered.
Reports indicate that all passengers were residents of Bhano ka Pada village and had gone to worship at the Sangameshwar Mahadev temple. After the prayers, they took a boat ride on the river when the accident occurred.
It has been reported that the boatman fled the scene after the incident. Preliminary information suggests that none of the passengers were provided with life jackets. Authorities suspect that the boat was overloaded, contributing to the tragedy.
This accident took place at the confluence of the Mahi, Anas, and Jakham rivers. The Sangameshwar Mahadev temple is submerged in water for about eight months each year.
Officials have stated that the search operation is ongoing.
