Tragic Blast in Manipur Claims Lives of Two Children

Imphal, April 7: A tragic bomb explosion in the Tonglaobi Awang Leikai area of Bishnupur district, Manipur, early Tuesday morning resulted in the deaths of two children. The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, prompting police and security agencies to launch an investigation.

According to sources, the explosion occurred around 1:05 AM inside a home where a woman and her two children were sleeping. A five-year-old boy and his five-month-old sister died at the scene. Their mother sustained minor injuries. Authorities suspect that the attack may have been carried out by Kuki militants, although official confirmation is still pending.

Following the incident, tensions escalated in the area. Local residents took to the streets to protest, gathering in front of the Moirang police station, where they burned wood and expressed their anger over the killings, demanding immediate action from officials.

Local BJP MLA Thongam Shanti Singh condemned the incident, labeling it a “brutal attack.” He stated, “This heinous act is no less than terrorism. Such inhumane acts have no place in our society and must be condemned in the strongest terms.”

The MLA further expressed his condolences to the grieving family, saying, “The ruthless murder of a five-year-old boy and a five-month-old girl is unbearable. My heartfelt sympathies are with the bereaved family during this time of immense sorrow.”

Earlier, on March 14, a bomb explosion in Noney district of Manipur resulted in the death of a one-year-old child, while his father was seriously injured. Police reported that the incident occurred around 8:30 AM in the Namkaolong Part-2 area when a suspicious explosive that the children had found detonated unexpectedly.

The deceased child was identified as Kalai Ngam Pamei (4), while his father, Thuan Kungam Pamei (40), was severely injured in the blast. It is reported that the children had brought the bomb home, and the father was attempting to dispose of it safely when the explosion occurred. The blast was so powerful that it killed the child instantly, while the father sustained serious injuries to both legs and was rushed to a hospital in Imphal.
