Jamtara, May 10: A tragic incident occurred in the Jamtara district of Jharkhand on Sunday when a speeding Scorpio vehicle struck a nine-year-old girl. The accident took place on the Govindpur-Sahibganj main road in the Narayanpur police station area. The young victim, identified as Sajda Khatun, daughter of Safaoul Ansari from the village of Koridih, succumbed to her injuries while being transported to the hospital.
Sajda was returning home on foot after bathing in a nearby pond when the white Scorpio hit her at high speed. The driver fled the scene immediately after the collision. The impact was so severe that the girl was thrown several meters away. Local residents and family members rushed her to the Narayanpur Community Health Center, but due to her critical condition, she was referred to Dhanbad. Unfortunately, she passed away before reaching the hospital.
Upon hearing the news of the tragedy, anger erupted among the villagers. They blocked the Govindpur-Sahibganj highway for nearly three hours, demanding the immediate arrest of the driver and adequate compensation for the victim’s family. The traffic was severely disrupted, leading to long queues of vehicles.
Narayanpur police station chief Murad Hasan arrived at the scene with a police force and assured the villagers of appropriate legal action and government compensation, which helped to clear the blockade. He mentioned that CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed to identify the fleeing vehicle, and a strict case will be filed against the responsible driver.
