
Farrukhabad, February 2: A tractor trolley carrying devotees returning from a holy bath at the Ganga riverbank overturned in Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh, leading to the death of a 12-year-old boy and injuries to six others.
The victims had visited the Ganga’s Dhai Ghat on the occasion of Maghi Purnima. Ramlakhan from Milkia Pahadpur village was traveling with relatives and villagers in three tractor trolleys. One trolley, carrying a DJ and generator, had about 12 people on board.
Eyewitnesses said the trolley suddenly lost control and overturned near Budhiya Pul on Shamshabad Road. People trapped under the trolley screamed for help.
Police and locals rushed to the scene and started rescue operations. The injured were taken to Shamshabad Community Health Centre, where doctors declared the 12-year-old boy, Riti, dead. The injured include 12-year-old Prachi and Ashu, 20-year-old Bijendra, 18-year-old Anil, and 21-year-olds Umesh and Vikrant.
Prachi and Anil Kumar, seriously wounded, were referred to Lohia Hospital. Others received treatment at the community health centre. Locals and passersby helped extricate those trapped and transported the injured in e-rickshaws to hospitals.
Police Station Officer Ramesh Singh said an investigation is underway. The boy’s body was sent for post-mortem after completing formalities. A case will be registered on the complaint of the family. The cause of the accident is being examined.
