Chennai, Apr 11 : SAKSHAM 2020, a month long mass awareness campaign on Oil and Gas Conservation was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi here on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said “We must remember that we owe a moral responsibility to our future generations to provide them a healthy environment and a sustainable future.” “I appeal to all of you to come together and contribute earnestly towards this mission of fuel conservation. Let SAKSHAM be a way of life and let us imbibe it in our culture so as to make this world a happy and green place”, he added. The Governor also inaugurated a painting exhibition in which prize winning art works of school students on Saksham theme were displayed. He also flagged off the Saksham 2022 publicity van which would travel across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry disseminating the message of fuel conservation. In order get the active involvement from students, spot quiz was conducted during the event. The questions were designed to sensitize the mind of participants about oil and gas conservation. In order to motivate them, prizes were given on-spot to the students who had answered the questions. A Thematic Cultural Treat was also performed by well-known team of performing artist. The month long campaign in Tamil Nadu included various events like Public Addresses, Panel Discussions, Auto Emission check, Bi-Cycle Day, Cyclothon, Debates, Free PUC Checks, Fuel Efficiency Drives, Group Talks, Hoardings / Digital Display of Conservation Messages, Cyclothons, Mega Training (Pump Boys),Pollution Checks, Publication of Articles and Conservation Messages, Quiz, Essay, Painting, Article writing and debate competitions for school and college students, Cooking Without Fire contest, Technical Meet for Industry, Training for LPG delivery boys, Workshops for Engineering Students, etc. The competitions would aim to raise awareness among the school students about practical conservation tips for the conservation of petroleum products in industrial, transport, agriculture and domestic sector, and how to practice such tips in their daily lives. PCRA and other oil companies would conduct various competitions across schools of Tamil Nadu for inculcating the habit of fuel conservation among the students.
