New Delhi, May 10: Reju Dutta, a suspended member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has issued an apology to senior IPS officer Ajay Pal Sharma following the formation of a BJP government in West Bengal. Dutta expressed hope that this matter would be resolved peacefully.
In a video posted on Sunday, Dutta stated that his comments about the IPS officer were not personal but rather aligned with party lines. He had previously created a video as a spokesperson for the TMC regarding Ajay Pal Sharma. Dutta was suspended for six years by his party for speaking the truth, and he is now facing backlash from BJP supporters.
“I want to clarify that the video was made in my capacity as a national spokesperson for the TMC, adhering to party directives. It was also released through the official TMC social media channels. I did not make any personal remarks against the IPS officer,” he said.
Dutta further mentioned that, upon the advice of senior BJP leaders in Uttar Pradesh and his legal counsel, he is offering an unconditional apology to Ajay Pal Sharma for his comments. He expressed a desire to return to a normal life with his family and hopes for a permanent resolution to this issue.
During the West Bengal assembly elections, the Election Commission appointed Ajay Pal Sharma as a police observer. He had warned TMC candidate Jahangir Khan that violence or misconduct would not be tolerated. Following this, Dutta released a video stating that after May 4, even BJP leaders would not be able to protect him, indicating a shift in political dynamics.
