Patna: Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim has expressed that the time has come to include the talented left-handed batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the Indian national cricket team. Currently in excellent form, the 14-year-old has scored 72, 40, and 52 runs in the last three matches of the Under-19 World Cup 2026.
Speaking about Vaibhav’s performance, Saba Karim said, “He is very talented. It is a pleasure to watch him play. I believe it is time to bring him into the Indian national team.”
He further added, “It is encouraging that Vaibhav is being closely monitored. State associations are actively working, and the BCCI Centre of Excellence is doing its part. The IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals is also paying attention to him. Soon, we will see him in the national team.”
Vaibhav Suryavanshi holds the record as the youngest player to score a century in the Indian Premier League (IPL), achieving the feat at the age of 14 years and 32 days. He scored a century off just 35 balls against Gujarat Titans while playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025. This was the second-fastest century in IPL history, with Chris Gayle holding the fastest record, scoring a century off 30 balls for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors on April 23, 2013.
The T20 World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, is set to begin on February 7. Reflecting on the tournament, Saba Karim said, “Team India is performing well and is very strong in the T20 format. I believe we will win the World Cup comfortably. Our team excels in white-ball cricket, though there is scope for improvement in Test cricket.”
