Siliguri, April 2 : Forest officials in West Bengal have rescued three wounded kangaroos who were possibly being freed by poachers after they failed to traffic the animals elsewhere, official sources said on Saturday. Police and forest officials were in for a surprise when they recovered a kangaroo from a truck during a routine check of vehicles at Pakhriguri in Alipurduar district on the Bengal-Assam border in mid-March. Two persons from Hyderabad were arrested for allegedly being involved in trafficking the animal. The recovery of the kangaroo, an animal not found in the region or even in the northeast, was reported probably for the first time in decades. The sources said the forest officials on patrol rescued two wounded kangaroos from Gajoldoba in Jalpaiguri district on Friday night. XC-PC KK MR
