Three Convicted in 2024 Triple Murder Case in Mexico, Sentenced to 158 Years

Three men received 158 years in prison for the murders of Australian brothers and their American friend in Mexico during a surfing trip.

Ensenada, October 17 (Daily Kiran) : A court in Mexico has sentenced three men to 158 years in prison for their roles in the 2024 murders of two Australian brothers, Jake and Calum Robinson, along with their American friend, Carter Road. The verdict was delivered by an Ensenada court on October 17, 2026, following the men’s conviction a week earlier.

The Robinson brothers and Road were on a surfing trip in Baja California when they were tragically killed. Their bodies were discovered days later, showing signs of gunshot wounds, after they were attacked while camping in a remote area near Ensenada on April 27, 2024.

The three convicted individuals—Jesus Gerardo, known as “El Kekas,” Irineo Francisco, and Angel Jesus—were found guilty of murder, robbery, and car theft through violent means. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the court’s decision came after the accused were linked to the violent incident that led to the deaths of the tourists.

Each of the convicts received a sentence of 158 years and nine months, which includes 135 years for the brutal murders, ten years and nine months for violent robbery, and 13 years for car theft.

The parents of the Robinson brothers attended every day of the trial, which began on September 7. They have established a foundation in their sons’ names to inspire others to live openly and love freely. Calum was remembered as a friendly professional lacrosse player who was passionate about environmental conservation, while Jake, a physician, was set to return to work at Geelong Hospital after the trip.

Baja California is known as one of Mexico’s most violent states, grappling with organized crime and drug trafficking. However, such criminal activities typically do not affect tourists. Despite this, foreign visitors along Mexico’s Pacific coast have been victims of violent attacks in the past.

In 2015, two Australian surfers, Dean Lucas and Adam Coleman, were murdered while traveling through the northwestern state of Sinaloa, with their bodies later burned.
