New Delhi, May 17: The Delhi Police have swiftly uncovered a conspiracy related to a murder plot, leading to the arrest of three suspects. A joint team from the Kotwali police station and the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the North District conducted the investigation following an initial complaint. The complaint alleged that a person was shot at his own residence, but the investigation revealed the incident was entirely staged.
The incident occurred on the night of May 10, 2026, around 10:30 PM. The complainant, Avinash Kumar, reported to the police that he was at his rented home in the Chandni Chowk area, specifically Kucha Bulaki Begum, when an unknown individual entered, brandished a firearm, and threatened him. The assailant fired two to three rounds, with one bullet grazing Avinash’s right thigh. He was subsequently taken to LNJP Hospital by his son. Upon receiving the report, police arrived at the scene, where the crime team collected blood samples and two cartridges. A case was registered at the Kotwali police station, and an investigation commenced under the relevant sections of law.
During the investigation, police reviewed CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas. The footage revealed a suspect exiting the complainant’s residence, who later fled in an auto-rickshaw. Following the route of the auto, police gathered clues leading to ISBT Kashmiri Gate, but the trail went cold. Subsequently, over two hundred CCTV recordings were meticulously examined, leading police to the Golden Mosque area, where local residents provided information related to the suspect’s identity.
Further investigation led to the discovery of the auto-rickshaw’s number used by the suspect. Interrogation of the auto driver revealed that he picked up the suspect from Monastery Market. Connecting the dots, police traced a white Scorpio vehicle used in the incident, registered under Deepak, a resident of Sonipat, Haryana. Through technical surveillance and social media analysis, police identified another suspect, Lokesh Dahiya, clarifying both individuals’ roles in the conspiracy.
On the morning of May 15, 2026, police arrested Lokesh Dahiya from the Kundli area of Sonipat. Based on information obtained during questioning, Deepak Kumar was also apprehended later that same day. Their disclosures led to the recovery of the Scorpio vehicle and details related to the weapon used in the incident. Subsequently, the main accused, Avinash Kumar, was arrested at his home, where a country-made pistol, two magazines, and fourteen cartridges were seized, along with five mobile phones.
Interrogation revealed that the entire incident was a premeditated scheme. Avinash Kumar, who was living in a rented property, had been in a dispute with his landlord. As tensions escalated over eviction, he devised a plan to shoot himself to fabricate a false case. His aim was to pressure the landlord into a settlement and extort a significant sum. His accomplices aided in executing this plan. The police have arrested all suspects and initiated further legal proceedings.
