‘The Lost Daughter’ bags top honours at Indie Spirit Awards

Santa Monica, March 7 : Maggie Gyllenhall’s “The Lost Daughter” has been declared the best feature film at the 37th Independent Spirit Awards. Marking her directorial debut, she also took the award for best screenplay besides best director, one of the only four women nominated in the five-person directing category. The nominees for this year’s Indie Awards included films that are largely out of the Oscars list. “A Chiara”, “C’mon C’mon”, “The Lost”Daughter”, “The Novice” and “Zola”. Gyllenhaal began tearing up on stage accepting the best director award as she said, “You were the first people to tell me I was a director,” she said. “Thank you to Netflix — I can’t even believe this — for your support. … Nobody ever makes their first movie and comes out loving their financiers. “I love independent film. I grew up making independent film. I love watching film. Everyone here in this tent has scrambled to get their movies made,” she added. Japan’s “Drive my Car” won the international feature while Pig and “7 Days” won the awards for Best First Screenplay and Best First Feature respectively. ANV ING
