By Anand Venkitachalam Score: 7.5/10 A fun throwback to 80s sci-fi, “The Adam Project” is a witty and an absolute blast to watch filled with some brilliant comedy, sarcasm, thrills and nice family drama. There are also times when the movie gets genuinely emotional, backed as it is by powerful performances on part of Ryan Reynolds, who plays time traveling protagonist Adam Reed and his younger self Walker Scobell, who deserves a lot of praise on his part. Then of course, how can we forget Mark Ruffalo as the long lost dad Louis Reed, Zoe Saldana as Laura or Jennifer Garner as Ellie Reed which also marks a fun twist as for the first time we get to see Deadpool, Hulk, Gamora and Elektra team up. With only a first watch, it is hard to fully describe the film for in parts it is absolutely bombastic and a blast to watch and in others it can drift away a bit, though never enough to let your attention slip. The movie packs a brilliantly engaging atmosphere that is magnetic enough to hook the audiences in with its simple fun but potent mix of comedy, thrills and heart warming family drama which could even drive some to tears at times. The Adam Project can even be called a more serious version of the 2021 Ryan Reynolds starrer Free Guy, well that is not surprising since both Free Guy and Adam Project are directed by Shawn Levy. One of the bigger surprises here is the fact that you get to see Ryan Reynolds pull of some real serious roles which he does fabulously, same goes for Walker Scobell with the chemistry between the two portions of the same person being rather fun to watch. As stated before, none of the actors need to be mentioned for they have performed their roles exactly the way they were supposed to, delivering some brilliant performances. Definitely warranting a second watch and packing a lot of surprises. “The Adam Project” is overall an extremely enjoyable family drama which is highly recommended if one wants to have a fun time, just sit down grab a large tub of popcorn and coke, relax and enjoy and you are then certainly in for one hell of a ride. It is in a nutshell a fun, imaginative, original sci-fi with tones of allusions to the 80s sci-fi packed to the brim with sharp sarcasm, thrills, top notch acting, great visuals and just an engaging atmosphere to boot making it just an all-out ride which is one good time. The film is scheduled to be released worldwide on Netflix on Friday. ANV ING
