New Delhi, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : As the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections draw nearer, the political atmosphere is heating up with escalating accusations. Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, sparked controversy with his remarks about “chavanni” (a small denomination coin), prompting a strong rebuttal from Jayant Chaudhary, the chief of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and a central minister. During a press conference in Delhi, Chaudhary warned that if Yadav revealed the secrets of their past alliance, he would find it difficult to maintain his position in Uttar Pradesh.
Chaudhary’s comments have intensified the political discourse in the state, with leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) also targeting Yadav. Uttar Pradesh Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar supported Chaudhary’s stance, noting that he is well-acquainted with the inner workings of Yadav’s political circle.
Another minister, Anil Rajbhar, criticized Yadav’s comments, asserting that the Chaudhary family has a significant legacy in Indian politics and deserves respect. He remarked that while Chaudhary is known for his kindness, the Samajwadi Party will face repercussions in the upcoming elections for disrespecting his family.
Minister Narendra Kashyap echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Chaudhary’s prominent political lineage, which includes a former Prime Minister and a central minister. He expressed that it is understandable for Chaudhary to be upset over being referred to in such a derogatory manner.
Akhilesh Yadav had previously remarked, “We turned the chavanni into a rupee, yet they left us.” His comments and the subsequent fallout highlight the growing tensions as the election date approaches.
