Hyderabad, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : Telangana’s Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has made a significant appeal to the central government, requesting approval for 956,000 homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). This request was presented during a meeting with Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, on Friday.
In the meeting, Reddy expressed gratitude for the allocation of 200,000 homes to the state in the first phase of the PMAY-G scheme. He highlighted that in July, he had submitted a memorandum to the central minister requesting approval for homes for 1,156,915 eligible rural families. He urged the minister to allocate the remaining 956,000 homes as per the state’s needs.
The Chief Minister’s Office reported that Reddy also informed Chouhan about the impact of El Niño on the state. He noted that reduced rainfall has led to increased electricity consumption in the agricultural sector. To mitigate the effects of the El Niño phenomenon, the state government has already developed plans to address shortages of drinking water and electricity.
Reddy called for essential assistance from the central government to tackle the challenges posed by El Niño in agriculture. He emphasized the need to encourage farmers to cultivate alternative crops in light of the current climatic conditions.
Furthermore, he highlighted that Telangana is the only state in India providing high-quality rice for free to the poor through ration shops. To support farmers, Reddy announced a bonus of 500 rupees for those growing quality rice. He also declared the establishment of a fruit and vegetable market spanning 250 acres, adhering to international standards. The meeting was attended by key officials, including Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Agriculture Minister Tumala Nageshwar Rao, and Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju.
