Patna, February 21: During the ongoing budget session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, the opposition has been aggressively questioning the ruling party regarding law and order. On Saturday, Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition and the national executive president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), launched a strong attack on the Nitish Kumar government. He accused the administration of tacitly endorsing a series of horrific incidents, suggesting that rapists enjoy protection from those in power.
In a statement, Yadav highlighted several alarming cases, including the rape of a one-and-a-half-year-old girl in Saharsa, a six-year-old girl in Kishanganj, and multiple incidents in Darbhanga and Patna, where a woman was assaulted while her husband was attacked while trying to help her. He also mentioned the rape of a minor in Saran, a murder case in Bhagalpur where the victim’s mother is still seeking justice, and the gang rape of a dancer from Uttar Pradesh in Bhojpur.
Yadav pointed out that these 14 incidents involved victims ranging from one-and-a-half to eleven years old, indicating a disturbing trend of sexual violence against minors in the state. He stated that the current regime has created an environment where criminals feel emboldened.
He also directed criticism towards the central government, saying, “Modi ji will come during the elections and tarnish Bihar’s reputation. Their silence on these horrific incidents proves that rapists have protection from the powers that be.” Yadav labeled the government as ‘ineffective’ and demanded that they provide ‘bold’ responses to these issues.
It is noteworthy that throughout the budget session, the opposition has consistently targeted the government over the state’s law and order situation. However, the ruling party has dismissed these allegations as politically motivated, asserting that the police are taking swift action in all cases.
