Patiala, April 5: A deeply troubling incident has emerged from Patiala district in Punjab, where a minor dispute escalated into a tragic event. A taxi driver reportedly committed suicide by ingesting poison in the village of Hamjhedi.
The deceased has been identified as Baljinder Singh. Reports indicate that he had a dispute with several individuals over an old issue. The situation intensified when these individuals allegedly vandalized Baljinder Singh’s vehicle at the taxi stand and physically assaulted him.
The case has taken a more serious turn following the circulation of a video on social media, in which Baljinder Singh made grave allegations against a former legislator from the Shutrana area and a police officer, claiming they forced him to take his own life. However, the police have not included the former legislator’s name in the list of accused in the registered case.
Baljinder Singh’s son, Krishan Singh, stated to the police that Major Singh and his associates were continuously harassing his father. He claimed that the mental pressure and harassment led his father to take this drastic step.
Following the incident, Baljinder Singh was admitted to a hospital in Tohana, Haryana, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. His body has since been sent to the government hospital in Samana for a post-mortem examination.
Investigating officer Gurpreet Singh reported that based on family statements, cases have been filed against Major Singh, Karamjeet Singh, Bunty (a resident of Patiala), Deepak (a resident of Samana), and several unidentified individuals. The police have assured that a thorough investigation is underway, and strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty.
