Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Inaugurates New Building for Aavin Laboratory in Chennai
Chief Minister Joseph Vijay opens a new Aavin laboratory building in Chennai, addressing milk supply issues in the region.

Chennai, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay inaugurated a new building for Aavin’s Central Laboratory at the Madhavaram Dairy Complex in Chennai on October 7. The construction of this facility, which cost ₹2.23 crore, aims to enhance dairy operations in the region.
During his visit, Chief Minister Vijay inspected the operations of the Aavin Central Dairy and reviewed various activities, including milk procurement, processing, and distribution. He sought detailed information from officials regarding the supply of packaged milk across different parts of Chennai.
The visit comes amid complaints about the limited availability of Aavin milk, which has made it challenging for consumers to meet their daily needs. Reports indicate that stock at retail outlets runs out quickly, forcing some to purchase more expensive private brand milk.
According to sources, the Madhavaram facility produces between 400,000 to 450,000 liters of milk daily. Packaged milk is dispatched via trucks to over 45 distribution routes throughout the city. Despite this extensive distribution network, consumers have reported shortages at local shops, affecting families that rely on Aavin milk.
During the inspection, Chief Minister Vijay discussed the procurement and distribution systems with officials. The Madhavaram Dairy processes and markets between 300,000 to 360,000 liters of milk daily. The complex also features cooling facilities and a storage room capable of holding 80 metric tons of milk powder.
The visit included a review of both current dairy operations and ongoing construction, alongside the inauguration of the new laboratory building.
