
Chennai, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Tamil Nadu athletes celebrated their achievements at the 2026 Asian Games during a ceremony held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. The state’s Sports Development Minister, Aadhav Arjun, honored the medalists, who expressed their joy and pride in representing their country.
Vithya Ramraj, one of the standout athletes, shared her excitement, saying, “I am very happy. Last time, I won three medals, but this time was special. We won a gold medal, and I felt proud when the national anthem played. I want to thank the state government, the state association, and my coach for their support, which helped us achieve this success.”
Ramraj was the most successful athlete from the state, securing gold in the women’s 4×400 meter relay, silver in the mixed 4×400 meter relay, and bronze in the women’s 400 meter hurdles. Her remarkable performance captivated the nation, and she broke a record previously held by PT Usha. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced a cash prize of ₹75 lakhs for her gold medal win.
Another athlete, Vishal T.K., expressed his feelings about winning medals, stating, “Winning a medal for India was my dream, and that’s why I got into sports. I feel proud to have accomplished this. I want to thank everyone who supported me. I dedicate my medal to my country, supporters, coach, and family.”
Vishal earned a silver medal in the mixed 4×400 meter relay and a bronze in the men’s 4×400 meter relay during the Asian Games. He also expressed happiness for fellow athletes who secured medals and encouraged those who did not to stay motivated for future competitions.
As the games continue, the athletes remain hopeful for more successes.
