(Repeating with change in headline) Bern, March 21 : Switzerland is ready to host peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, according to Swiss President Ignazio Cassis. “Switzerland is ready to play the role of mediator behind the scenes or host the talks. “Switzerland has both neutrality and the humanitarian tradition,” he was quoted as saying by the RTS TV channel. On March 16, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with the RBC TV channel that Swiss colleagues had approached him with a proposal on mediation at the talks between Moscow and Kyiv, TASS reported. “Colleagues from other countries, particularly from Switzerland, which traditionally present themselves as countries where compromises are achieved, and which are ready to mediate (at talks between Russia and Ukraine), occasionally approach me,” Lavrov said. Switzerland, which is not a member of the European on, has supported sanctions against Russia. According to TASS, Switzerland was added in the list of sanctions imposed by Russian government on March 7. RNJ
