Nagoya, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : Suraj Singh Mayanglambam of India finished in 11th place in the men’s Changquan Wushu final at the Asian Games held in Nagoya on September 20, 2026. He narrowly missed out on a medal, falling short by just 0.040 points.
Competing against 21 athletes at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall, Suraj scored a total of 9.683 points. The Wushu expert achieved a perfect score of 5.00 in the Quality of Movement (A-score) and earned 2.00 points for the Degree of Difficulty (C-score). His overall performance (B-score) garnered him 2.683 points.
Kuoang Chi Hin from Macau topped the event with a score of 9.723 points, closely followed by compatriot Chi Kuan Song at 9.720 points. The narrow margins at the top highlighted the competitive nature of the finals, with Suraj’s score just shy of the bronze medal mark.
Changquan Wushu is one of the most dynamic disciplines in martial arts, requiring athletes to perform a fast-paced routine of traditional Northern Chinese Kung Fu movements. Performances typically feature powerful punches, deep lunging stances, high kicks, aerial jumps, and spins, all completed within a time frame of approximately 90 seconds.
The order of performance in the finals was determined not by seeding or pre-event rankings. Instead, each of the 21 finalists received a starting number through a random draw, determining their sequence on the floor.
Although Suraj did not secure a medal, his score of 9.683 points demonstrated his exceptional skill. The perfect marks in Quality of Movement and Degree of Difficulty, along with a flawless routine, showcased the technical quality of his performance.
