Supreme Court Ruling Seen as a Major Blow to Rahul Gandhi and Revant Reddy, Says KTR

KTR criticizes Rahul Gandhi and Revant Reddy after Supreme Court upholds Telangana High Courts decision on disqualification case.

Hyderabad, September 24 (Daily Kiran) : KTR, the executive president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has labeled the Supreme Court‘s recent decision as a “stinging slap” for opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and Telangana Chief Minister Revant Reddy. This statement came after the Supreme Court upheld the Telangana High Court‘s ruling regarding the disqualification of former Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender under anti-defection laws.

The Supreme Court dismissed Nagender’s plea challenging his disqualification, affirming the High Court’s earlier judgment without interference. KTR took to social media platform X to express that Nagender’s attempts to evade disqualification had failed, and the Supreme Court made it clear there was no basis for overturning the High Court’s decision.

He accused Gandhi and Reddy of attempting to “steal” the public mandate through defection, believing they could shield themselves behind the Assembly Speaker’s office. KTR emphasized that the Supreme Court’s ruling exposes efforts to protect defection through institutional means.

Referring to potential by-elections in Khairatabad, he stated that the electorate would soon deliver their verdict on “three years of betrayal, broken promises, and misgovernance.” KTR hinted at broader political implications, suggesting, “One wicket has fallen, and many more will soon follow.” He also referred to Gandhi derogatorily as an “MLA thief.”

T. Harish Rao, the deputy leader of the BRS in the Assembly, welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision. He argued that it was a significant blow to the Congress party’s dual standards, especially since they often claim to advocate for the Constitution. Harish Rao challenged Gandhi to demonstrate his faith in the Constitution by demanding immediate resignations from all defecting MLAs who joined the Congress, urging them to seek a fresh mandate from the public.

He criticized the hypocrisy of discussing constitutional ethics in Delhi while remaining silent about the conduct of their own party in Telangana. Harish Rao questioned whether the call to “save the Constitution” was a genuine commitment or merely a political slogan.
