New Delhi, May 12: Rising pollution levels have led to an increase in respiratory issues among people of all ages. From children to the elderly, many are suffering from asthma, allergies, coughs, and shortness of breath. In this context, yoga can be a beneficial complement to medication. Various yoga poses strengthen the body from within, and one such pose is the Sun Mudra, known for its health benefits.
According to the Ministry of AYUSH, Sun Mudra helps boost energy levels in the body. This gesture strengthens the fire element within, promoting better digestion, maintaining energy, and facilitating proper breathing. This is why Sun Mudra is considered helpful for respiratory conditions like asthma.
To perform Sun Mudra, bend the ring finger and gently press it with the thumb while keeping the other fingers straight. In yoga, the ring finger is associated with the earth element, while the thumb symbolizes the fire element. When the thumb applies pressure on the ring finger, it increases warmth in the body and reduces heaviness.
Yoga experts believe that this mudra aids in reducing accumulated phlegm in the body. Asthma often causes inflammation in the airways, leading to phlegm buildup, which makes breathing difficult. Sun Mudra helps increase warmth in the body, thereby reducing phlegm. Additionally, it enhances the flow of oxygen in the body. When the lungs receive an adequate amount of oxygen, relief in breathing is experienced.
However, doctors emphasize that medication is essential for asthma, and yoga should be adopted as a supportive measure.
Sun Mudra offers numerous benefits. It aids in reducing excess body fat and is also beneficial for digestive issues. Regular practice can provide relief from gas, indigestion, and a heavy stomach.
Moreover, Sun Mudra is considered good for mental health. It helps calm the mind and promotes positive thinking. Regular practice can lead to a tranquil mind and reduced stress levels.
