Kota, July 29: Students preparing for competitive exams in Kota have welcomed the passage of the Anti-Paper Leak Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha. They believe this legislation is a significant step towards curbing incidents of paper leaks. However, its true success will depend on effective and long-term implementation. Students urge the government not to stop at merely enacting laws but to undertake comprehensive reforms to ensure the examination system is entirely secure and transparent.
Student Ayush expressed that incidents of paper leaks should be completely eradicated, as millions of students work hard for years. He noted that many students take double or triple drops to prepare, and a paper leak undermines their efforts. He suggested that the government should also reform the National Testing Agency (NTA) to prevent such occurrences in the future. Regarding penalties, he stated that the compensation for families of students who have committed suicide due to these leaks is insufficient. The government must ensure that no paper leaks occur in the future and that the examination system operates in an organized and fair manner.
Student Gaurav emphasized that the government should show sensitivity towards families of students who have lost their lives due to mental stress. While the past cannot be changed, it is crucial to prevent such incidents from happening again. He warned that if another paper leak occurs, protests could be even more intense. He suggested that fines should be increased to deter individuals from committing such offenses. A single paper leak can ruin an entire year for students, leading to prolonged mental distress. Therefore, the government must strengthen examination security measures.
Aditya Kumar welcomed the bill, stating that he has read about it and considers it a positive step. However, he emphasized that the true test of any law lies in its long-term implementation. Initially, the atmosphere may be positive, but it is essential that its impact is visible in the coming years, completely eliminating paper leak incidents. He called for significant reforms in the education system. On penalties, he mentioned that students suffer immense mental stress due to paper leaks, and in some cases, they resort to suicide. The families who have lost children should be taken into serious consideration.
Student Divya noted that the new rules benefit hardworking students, as they often dedicate two years to preparing for competitive exams. A paper leak can severely impact their future and mental well-being. Many students have even taken their lives due to such incidents, so the law should be stricter. A compensation of merely 10 crore rupees is not sufficient. If someone has ruined the future of millions of students, there should be severe penalties, including life imprisonment.
Meanwhile, student Adish Srivastava remarked that there is a sense of joy among the youth following the bill’s passage. He attributed this to the unity among students, stating that their movement successfully conveyed their concerns to the government. If students remain organized, they can bring about positive changes on many important issues related to the education system in the future. However, he also mentioned that a seven-year sentence may not be entirely adequate, while acknowledging that individuals should also be given a chance for reform.
