Strict Action Taken After Bargi Cruise Tragedy in Jabalpur

Jabalpur, May 1: The Madhya Pradesh government has initiated strict action against those responsible for the cruise accident at Bargi Reservoir in Jabalpur.

In a statement released on Friday evening, the government announced the immediate dismissal of cruise pilot Mahesh Patel, helper Chhote Lal Gond, and ticket counter in-charge (front office assistant) Brijendra for their negligence.

Additionally, Sunil Maravi, the manager of Hotel Makal Resort and Boat Club Bargi, has been suspended for dereliction of duty, while regional manager Sanjay Malhotra has been reassigned to headquarters pending a departmental investigation.

The Chief Minister emphasized that anyone found guilty will not be spared under any circumstances, reiterating the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards mistakes.

This action follows Chief Minister Mohan Yadav‘s visit to Jabalpur, where he met with the victims’ families and assessed the ground situation. During his visit to the Bargi Dam, he interacted with survivors and the families of those who lost their lives.

Emotional scenes unfolded as the Chief Minister spoke with grieving relatives, offering encouragement to children and assuring them that the government stands firmly with them during this difficult time.

Regarding the rescue operation, the Chief Minister reported that nine bodies have been recovered so far, while 28 individuals have been rescued. Efforts to locate the missing persons are ongoing, with teams from the State Disaster Response Force, National Disaster Response Force, and the Army collaborating on-site.

CM Yadav stated that the incident has deeply shocked the entire state. He emphasized that lessons will be learned to strengthen safety measures. He also acknowledged the role of local residents in the rescue efforts, noting that workers associated with the Jal Jeevan Mission project and other locals provided significant assistance to government teams during the emergency.

In announcing relief measures, the Chief Minister stated that the state government will provide financial assistance of 400,000 rupees to the families of the deceased.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also announced a contribution of 200,000 rupees from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the families of the victims.
