Strengthen Your Digestive System with Pawanmuktasana: Discover Its Benefits

New Delhi, April 6: In today’s fast-paced life, irregular eating habits, lack of exercise, and constant stress have led to common digestive issues. Problems like constipation, gas, bloating, and indigestion are affecting daily life. In this context, Pawanmuktasana has emerged as a natural remedy for many.

This yoga pose not only strengthens the digestive system but also aids in reducing excess fat around the abdomen, thighs, and waist. Regular practice makes the body feel lighter and more active.

The term ‘Pawanmuktasana’ is derived from three Sanskrit words. ‘Pawan’ means ‘air,’ ‘mukt’ means ‘to release,’ and ‘asana’ means ‘pose.’ Thus, this pose helps in releasing the internal air of the body.

According to the Ministry of AYUSH, Pawanmuktasana is an extremely effective yoga asana that alleviates gas, constipation, and other digestive disorders. It massages the abdominal organs, strengthens the spine, and provides relief from Vata disorders. It also helps reduce back pain and decrease abdominal fat.

This asana is not limited to digestive issues; it also strengthens the pelvic and reproductive muscles. Strong pelvic muscles can help women regulate their menstrual cycles and improve reproductive health.

Performing this asana is quite simple and requires no special equipment. You can lie on your yoga mat or the floor, gently bringing your knees toward your chest and holding them with your hands. Maintain this position for a few seconds before slowly lowering your legs back to the ground. Practicing this 2-3 times a day can yield noticeable results. It can be done on an empty stomach in the morning or after a light meal in the evening.

However, individuals who are pregnant, have high blood pressure, hernias, or have recently undergone abdominal surgery should avoid this asana.
