New Delhi, April 4: BJD MP Sasmit Patra emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is not just a concern for India, but a vital issue for the entire world. This strategic waterway facilitates the shipment of oil and natural gas to India, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. Recent conflicts in West Asia have disrupted these shipments.
Patra highlighted that several vessels have been attacked, resulting in the loss of many Indian lives. In response to these challenges, 60 countries convened a virtual meeting to discuss preventing the militarization of the Strait of Hormuz. He stressed the importance of ensuring that any conflict does not obstruct maritime routes crucial for other nations.
Regarding the inclusion of two ships in the Indian Navy, Patra stated that this is a significant step forward. He congratulated the Indian Navy and Defense Forces for this achievement. The first vessel, Aridhaman, is a nuclear ballistic missile submarine that enhances India’s nuclear capabilities. The second, Taragiri, is a stealth frigate that will play a crucial role in operational effectiveness.
Patra noted that the ongoing conflict in West Asia has persisted for several months. He urged for a resolution to facilitate dialogue and reduce tensions. With many nations united in addressing this situation, he underscored the necessity of negotiations between the U.S., Israel, and Iran to resolve the conflict.
The rising oil prices are exerting pressure on the world economy, sending a negative signal to both these nations and the global community. Discussions aimed at ending the conflict are essential.
